Human Bird

Human Bird

I stumble up the steps like a baby trying to walk. This was our second day at camp and I knew it was going to be the most exciting.   As the kind instructor greets me I feel like I don’t have a clue what’s going on.

The many ropes and buckles make me feel faint, the sound of the birds make me feel better.  Then the yellow flag stands out amongst the trees, “its time”, I thought.

The air rushes past my face as I feel like a bird.  The wind whispers his deepest secrets to me. The trees are like a mini forest but the cars give it away.

Then suddenly the line dips as I near the swamp, I feel dangerously out of place.

The tyres loom out of the blue and I know I am nearing the end. My hat seems to flap in protest, straining against the buckle that is holding it in place.

I slow down the man is standing in my way, he grabs my foot and holds tight. He hooks the line onto a big screw that is fastened into the platform.

I jump off and land a little unsteady on the ground. I feel sad, my time is over. But as I stumble back to my group, I didn’t know I’d get another turn!!
